Slow Melody Competition Information

Competition Profile and History

The Salisbury City Brass Band Slow Melody Competition was originated by Mr. Ken McMahon in 1976 to provide a solo competition with an emphasis on lyrical playing for registered brass band musicians. As a result, this provides a platform for players of all standards to enter a solo competition with confidence.

Sections

Note: Competitors may enter into ONE section only.

  • Juvenile Novice: Fourteen (14) years and under. Entrant must have never won a first place in the Juvenile Novice or Juvenile section before.
  • Juvenile: Fourteen (14) years and under. Entrants that have placed first in Juvenile Novice or Juvenile.
  • Junior Novice: Nineteen (19) years and under. Entrant must have never won a first place in the Junior Novice or Junior section before.
  • Junior: Nineteen (19) years and under. Entrants that have placed first in Junior Novice or Junior.
  • Senior Novice: Entrant must have never won a first place in the Senior Novice or Senior section before.
  • Senior: Over 19 years of age. Entrants that have placed first in Senior Novice or Senior.
  • Veteran: Sixty (60) years and over. (birth date must be supplied)
  • Orchestral Brass: Players of any age playing an instrument that is not a traditional “brass band” instrument.

All Juvenile and Junior sections - age as at date of Competition.

Section results will be available after the lunch break and after the last section.

All sections have a perpetual trophy, medals and certificates for all three places as well as a money prize for all first places.
