SALISBURY CITY BAND SLOW MELODY COMPETITION

 

RULES FOR THE SLOW MELODY COMPETITION (2010)

 

  1. A Slow Melody may not necessarily be a song, but it must be what it says: a Slow Melody.  It cannot contain ‘Cadenzas’, ‘Variations’ or ‘Prolonged Fast Moving Passages’.  It must not be a ‘Florid Solo’ i.e.: over-elaborate, showy, ornate.  The tempo should be approximately crotchet = 80.  It will be the Adjudicator's decision as to the suitability of a chosen Solo.
  2. Competitors will compete in order of the draw on the day.
  3. Competitors must be registered with their Band 40 days prior to the competition date and be in their Band uniform during their performance.
  4. Piano accompaniment is compulsory.  There will be a low pitch piano provided.
  5. An Adjudicator's copy of the music is to be handed to the Officials at least thirty (30) minutes prior to the starting time of the sections, and bars must be numbered consecutively.
  6. No person is to be on stage other than the competitor and the pianist/assistant during the performance.
  7. Tuning on stage is restricted to thirty (30) seconds.  Tuning is to be done before the beginning of each section if possible.
  8. Anyone aged nineteen (19) years of age and over is classed as a senior.
  9. No competitor shall play any item with which they have won a first prize within the last two (2) years.  This includes any items won at State or National solo competitions.
  10. Every care will be taken with competitor's music – no responsibility will be taken. Each competitor is responsible for collecting their music and comments after results are given for each section.  A.P.R.A. copyright restrictions are expected to be adhered to.  These can be collected in the registration room.
  11. Players may compete in one (1) section only.
  12. The time limit for the Slow Melody is five (5) minutes.
  13. All entry fees must be paid before the date of the competition to prevent disqualification.
  14. Entry dates to be strictly adhered to.  No late entries will be accepted.
  15. Players not ready to compete on time will be disqualified.
