Geoff Meikle Wins SABA Musical Director of the Year

Congratulations from all of us at Salisbury to our Musical Director Mr.Geoff Meikle, for winning this years South Australian Band Associations'(SABAs') Musical Director of the Year Award.

Geoff, a member of the Band since 1966, was appointed the position of Musical Director in 1998, soon after Mr. Ken McMahon decided to step down, and revert back playing the Trombone.

Geoff was nominated by several Band Members for this award for severalreasons. Some of these are, his dedication to the Band, his easy going approach towards Band Members (both on and off the field), but above all his never-ending display of patience during those all to often frustrating times at rehearsals.

Geoff Meikle (SCB MD)

Conducting a top grade Band, or progressing students with promise isn't an easy task, and certainly requires dedication. However, those of us (and that's pretty much everyone) who have worked their way through the ranks of Brass Banding, know that it takes dedication, and an enormous amount of patience in order to bring together a group of players, who are still very much developing as musicians personally, and who all to often have other commitments outside of music, which out of necessity, takes a priority over home practice. Geoff manages to balance these matters, without fuss, while still bringing fun into the "hobby" we call Banding.

Once again Geoff, congratulations and many thanks from all of us at the Salisbury City Band Geoff's Band profile can be found by heading to http://www.salisburycityband.org/html/geoff_meikle.html

Brass Band Week is celebrated in many countries across the world, and this year it runs from the 21st of May, to the 27th May

The South Australian Band Association would like Adelaide Bands to be part of this, as they believe it a great opportunity to promote our local brass bands.
