Adrienne Meikle

Date Started with the Band: June 1970

Personal Information: Began playing at 13 Years of age in the Salisbury City Band learners class on Tenor Horn, swapped to Baritone that same year. Joined the Junior and Senior Band in 1970 and moved from Baritone to Euphonium in 1973. (Have been there ever since)

Mum, Dad and three Uncles, Brother and Sister have all been in the Band at some stage

I was also involved in the Marching Girls and Irish Dancing at this stage. Those two had to go so I could concentrate on my playing.

Met Geoff in 1966 and married in 1978 and will celebrate 28 Years on the 15th of June 2006.

What are you currently up to ? I am currently an Instrumental Music Teacher at St. Columbia College, Pedare College, Salisbury East High School and teaching privately at home.

Achievements:

  • First female to win the State Junior Champions or Champions in 1974;
  • My work with the Junior Band, Brass Ensemble (Brassworks) and the Stage Band;
  • Various prizes as a soloist and Drum Major;
  • Have represented the State as a Musician and Dancer
  • Working with Juniors has given me the greatest sense of achievement; and,
  • Being in the one band for 36 years:

Musical Ambitions:

To be able to play at a good standard for the next 20 odd years so I can achieve the same as my Mum, who is still playing and is is actively involved in the Band at 78. (and Dad 77).
